About The Blog
Multicultural Literature
Shawna Henderson is a stay-at-home wife and mother of four. She is a volunteer in her community and an online college student. During an eight-week course through Grand Canyon University, she was introduced to literature from many cultures. Shawna enjoys reading, writing, and traveling.
Multicultural literature introduces diversity of cultures to the world. Global Literature explores literature from around the world and allows people to have a broader understanding of cultures from all corners of the globe. National boundaries are blurred in our 21st century society when one culture has a strong influence over another culture.
Blending of cultures helps bring global awareness of differences between its citizens. What we don’t want to lose is our own cultural identities. We are a globe-trotting society who need to embrace and celebrate the differences between us. By overcoming stereotypes and accepting other cultures our world could become more progressive.
The themes discussed in this blog include stereotypes, dealing with emotions, cultural identity, folklore, magical realism, moral values, social isolation and self-esteem, and time management. Many of these themes were repeated in the readings.
